Adult Art Enrichment: Clay Exploration
AGES 18+
In our Clay Exploration class, participants will delve into a range of handbuilding techniques. This hands-on experience is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of working with clay manually. The primary aim of this class is to foster the exploration and enrichment of each individual's connection to self and imagination through the tactile process of handbuilding.
INSTRUCTOR: RICKY BLANDING
Ricky Blanding has studied ceramics and pottery for over 17 years and has been instructing clay and other mediums since 2011. After working at Pewabic Pottery as a fabrication artist, Ricky established Ricky Blanding Ceramics, where he creates commissioned ceramic work, sculpture, and small batch pottery. He is now growing his businesses and is excited to stay connected with artists and people who want to learn more about themselves through clay and sustainability.
Ricky says this about his work: "Through my process, I strive to recognize and develop my own critical thinking, research and experimentation skills. I also do this to stay true to who I am even though that may be on the border of two worlds usually seen as separate; those being Science and Art."
Ricky is also the founder of Scrap Soils, a Detroit-based non-profit focused on composting.
